SKETCHES OF THE HISTORY OF SCIENCE
As someone who has taught both at the collegial (CÉGEP) and university levels, I have found science textbooks and teaching materials available to me to be difficult to use for non-science students taking a science option. These materials assume too much background in science and present research in a non-engaging way. To partially remedy this situation, I am currently co-authoring a graphical textbook about the history and philosophy of science for the Collegial Centre for Educational Materials Development with Dr. Justine Bell. Our textbook is geared towards students curious about science, but who lack any background beyond secondary school science. To do so, we present topics in a sketch format that allows the reader to peruse a subject in order to get an understanding of how it works, without getting bogged down in a lot of specialist detail. Sketches of The History of Science (illustrated by Alexandre Bustamante) was launched on November 8th, 2019 and the book is available here. We were interviewed about Sketches on CBC Montreal Let's Go with Sabrina Marandola, which can listen to here.
